WRITING REFERENCES BY APA STYLE


WRITING REFERENCES/CITATION/BIBLIOGRAPHY BY APA STYLE FOR SINGLE AUTHOR
Consider the following expression;
“A book called Sociolinguistics has been written by R. A. Hudson and published
in Cambridge by Cambridge University Press in 1980. “

1. Write the surname/last name of the author followed by comma
Eg  Hudson,

2. Write the initials of other names which is followed by full stop
Eg  Hudson, R.A.

3. Write the year of Publication in brackets.  The brackets are followed by full stop
Eg  Hudson, R.A. (1980).

4   Write the title of the book which must be in italics (If written by computer) or underline (if handwritten) followed by full stop. The first letter of the main word in the title must be capitalized.
Eg.  Hudson, R.A. (1980). Sociolinguistics.

 5.  Write the city/town/place of publication where the book was published followed by colon (:)
Eg.  Hudson, R.A. (1980). Sociolinguistics. Cambridge:

6.Write the name of the publishing company (Publisher) followed by full stop
Eg  Hudson, R.A. (1980). Sociolinguistics. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.



NB: 1. If the book is written by two up to six authors, separate each author by       comma then  use ampersand (&) for the last author
        2.  If there are more than six authors, write the first author and the word Et     al (which means and others) other procedures remain the same..
       3. If you are making reference/citation within the text, Write the surname of the author and the year only
